Rockville Centre, NY – Michael Kevin Jewell, 77, died peacefully at home on Friday, June 30, 2017 after a courageous battle with cancer.
He leaves behind his beloved wife of 50 years, Helyn Hill Jewell, his daughter, MaryAlice Jewell Carlsson and her husband Braden Carlsson and his daughter Alicia Jewell, three grandchildren Justin Jewell, Adrianna Oritiz and Blake Carlsson. He was the cherished brother of Walter, Carol, Claire, Cathy and Christine. He had many adoring nieces and nephews and close family friends. He was predeceased by his beloved brother, Kenneth Jewell, and his parents Walter and Alice Jewell.
Born in Brooklyn on December 19, 1939, Mike was a lifelong resident of Rockville Centre, New York. He was a graduate of St. Francis College and joined the Army in 1961 serving our country for four years. Following the service, he pursued a career as an insurance broker at Liberty Mutual. His entrepreneurial drive led to creating an agency, ASA, Inc, providing a vast array of insurance products to individuals and companies. Mike took great pride in the relationships he developed with his clients over the years, always providing excellence, integrity and compassion.
Mike served on numerous community boards and was the past president of the Rockville Centre Concerned Citizens Party. Mike was a devoted parishioner at St. Agnes Cathedral involved in many ministries and parish fundraising events. He was one of the founding members and past president of St. Agnes Father's Club, a past member of the St. Agnes School Board and the past Chairman of the school's Development Fund. Mike was a Knight of the Holy Sepulchre and a recipient of the St. Thomas Aquinas Award. He was a member of the Friends of Mercy raising funds for Mercy Hospital.
Visitation will be held at Macken Mortuary, 52 Clinton Avenue, Rockville Centre on Thursday, July 6, 2017 from 7 – 9 PM and Friday, July 7, 2017 from 4 – 8 PM. A mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Agnes Cathedral, 29 Quealy Place, Rockville Centre, NY on Saturday, July 8 at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Sisters of Mercy, Office of Development, 150 Ridge Road, Hartsdale, NY 10530-2205 or Pancreatic Cancer Action Network at www.pancan.org.
